Musical feast in Bayou

by on Wednesday, September 9th, 2015

fifolet-musicfeast346x512Carter Denja returns to Fifolet this Saturday, September 12, with a delectable selection of food-themed music for your enjoyment.

With her vast collection of international recordings, attending one of her shows is like taking a trip around the world. She is plenty familiar with local music as well, having acted as master of ceremonies for many a New Toulouse parade during Carnival time.

“Feast Your Ears” will also feature a food trivia game, freshly concocted by Nikita Weymann, with prizes provided by Look What the Cat Dragged In.

Just a few steps southeast of the Bayou rail depot, the venue is bohemian in nature, and the show will take place out of doors. While wearing ballroom finery will raise no eyebrows, you may wish to turn out in something more comfortable.

The party begins at 1:00 PM.

I am very concerned about the dance mania that recently afflicted NT. It reminds me strongly of the Italian tarantella. That movement disorder is induced by the bite of a spider. The “dance” of the victim is described as agitated and lasting up to hours, or even days. The episodes are characterized by delirium and contortions. In Italy, entire communities of people would join hands, dance, leap, scream, and shake for hours. Victims in NT are similarly described as “twitching,” “shaking,” and becoming “delirious.”

A local spider could be responsible, or one could have come in due to river commerce. The fact that one victim used the phrase “the bug did seem to descend” suggests that the victim was subconsciously aware of some such creature. On the other hand, the bite of an alien might produce the same effect  I hope that, with vigilance, citizens and visitors can avoid a full-blown epidemic. I have recently seen a large number of spiders in the bayou and am sending a photo of one of them.

Terpsichorean trouble in Taloo

A strange dancing malady broke out in New Toulouse last night. The exact number of residents affected is unknown, but three cases were reported.

I was one of those cases.

Mayor Henri offered up his old family cure-all, “Potion 99,” in hopes that it would stop the shaking. Although the cure helped some people, it didn’t appear to help all, and after taking way more than the recommended dose, I was still afflicted.

Miss Niki suggested that perhaps it was a food allergy, or a reaction to eating tainted mushrooms.  Considering that I did not eat the mushrooms, that doesn’t seem to be plausible in my case.

Spirit possession was also offered as an explanation, but in my experience, one doesn’t recall the events of a spirit possession, especially as they’re taking place.

I went out into town, searching for others who might be afflicted, and even though not all were, the bug did seem to descend upon a few visitors. One woman, upon arrival, started twitching and moving around so badly that she jumped right back on the ferry and demanded to go home.

I became delirious and tired, and apparently I passed out, eventually waking up on the docks, cold, wet, and covered in swamp grass. Fortunately, the dancing sickness seems to have passed.

I, for one, am blaming aliens.

Even though Arijah loves the bayou, she feels that swamp grass doesn’t make a very good fashion statement.
