Toulouse Caboose rolls into bayou

by on Sunday, November 23rd, 2014

Dr. Guenivere Avalon has been known to arrange many an event in the city, such as the Steamlands 500 air races. Now she has begun a new business enterprise in the bayou. The Toulouse Caboose is a diner in a railroad car next to the train station. The menu ranges from crawfish to more exotic fare inspired by the doctor’s travels.

“I saw an opportunity here at this superb location,” said Dr. Avalon. “I saw all of the tourists looking for ghosts in the bayou, and I realized that the bayou could use a place to socialize. Eventually the Caboose will also host concerts.”

The Caboose will kick things off with a holiday party at 6:00 PM on December 5. “I will have a holiday buffet and maybe a few other tricks. All are invited to come, of course.”

Well, this old bird will keep an eye out and maybe try to wet her beak a bit. Heaven knows that crazy doctor has some of the best medicine in town, and I mean the stuff that comes in bottles or kegs, not in pills.

According to Dr. Guenivere D’Avalon, chests full of pirate plunder have turned up all around New Toulouse and the neighboring bayou, stirred up from the storm. “Instead of wild looting,” she said, “we can make the quest for these items a means of fun and frolic in the New Toulouse manner!” Around 6:00 PM on Friday, August 15, folks will gather at Blake’s Still House Tavern on Shotgun Row and begin to investigate likely treasure locations, though I bet it will involve liquor.

New tea room in New Toulouse

by on Saturday, February 15th, 2014

Dr. Guenevere D’Avalon would like to announce her new venture, the Apothecary Tea Room and Tavern. It combines an English tea room with an outdoor tavern and patio where the bayou folk can stop by on the way to the city, or city folk can hopefully catch a bit of the bayou at the pier.

“I had many ideas for the old atelier space, and this was what seemed to work well,” Dr. Avalon said. “Whether you are a city type or a country cousin, you can find a place here at my tea room. I will also prepare several unique herbal remedies and teas. After all, if a New Orleans pharmacist can invent the cocktail, what can a New Toulouse doctor do?”

The Apothecary is right behind the Tattler building, near the cemetery. “I guess this means I will need to bribe the staff with specials, though I think I shall stay away from meat pies,” said Dr. Avalon. “Ale works better.”

Medical clinic to open in town

by on Saturday, January 11th, 2014

The old Montgolfier Building has seen its share of history in our fair city, but soon it will host what some consider a beacon of hope. It shall soon host the Avalon Clinic to tend to the ill. The founder is Dr. Guenivere D’Avalon. Some just call her “Doc Avalon.” The doctor is a graduate of the prestigious Miskatonic University, and she previously worked at Innsmouth Hospital in New England.

“I saw this city when visiting some relatives, and I fell in love,” said Dr. Avalon. “I knew that there was a need I could address.” The clinic plans to offer a variety of treatments, from surgery to tonics for health. There is a hint of controversy, as Dr. Avalon supposedly left Innsmouth after practicing “advanced experiments.” When asked about this, she replied, “I have always believed in the advancement of science, both for human good and for its own sake. There are always those that fail to understand what needs to be done, and Innsmouth’s loss will be New Toulouse’s benefit!”

Apparently Dr. Avalon is doing well, as she has already hired a local to be her nurse. She plans to hire medical staff and lab assistants, and soon she will be seeing patients. “We do hope to be open by Mardi Gras. After all, this city will have a great need for proper medicine once the tourists start getting drunk and rowdy.”
